Weed, California is located at the junction of Interstate 5 and Highway 97. Situated on the west side of Mount Shasta at 3,466 feet, Weed is built on pyroclastic flows laid down about 9,000 years ago. Weed is in little danger of mudflows from Diller Canyon as there is no glacier meltwater running down the canyon. However, Weed is in a zone of "intermediate potential hazard" from pyroclastic flows should Mount Shasta erupt.
